Diagonal school board reorganizes

A number of actions for the new school board year were taken as the Diagonal Community school board reorganized following the recent school board election.

Board reorganization matters

New board member Jim Strange was administered the oath of office after the results of the recent election were acknowledge. Becky Stamps was re-elected with 75 votes and Strange receive 69 votes to be elected.

Named officers for the board were Phil Mason as board president and Monte Starlin as board vice president. Billie Joe Greene was named board secretary for the new year and all three took their oath of office.

Marion James was named the school board attorney and the Diagonal Progress the district's official newspaper.

Personnel, other matters

Several matters were handled at the meeting.

Resignations of Rebecca Crouch and Erika Wilmes as paraprofessionals and Chandra Drake as site coordinator for the Mount Ayr Community school district Sites for Learning programs were accepted by the board.

Laura Bentley [Page 8] paraprofessional and contracts for Gina Gunsolley and Kelli Goodale to serve as softball coaches for 2008 wer also approved.

The board discussed future senior trips for the district and made the recommendation that Washington, D.C. be the set destination due to the educational value for future trips.
