Diagonal board holds reorganizational meeting

Election of officers, the hiring of a secondary English teacher, designation of official district assignments, administrative reports and the approval of class and activity fund-raisers were among the activities of the board of directors of the Diagonal Community Schools during their most recent meeting.

Phil MASON and Jim STRANGE were re-elected as board president and vice-president respectively. In addition, the board set its regular meeting date for the third Wednesday of each month.

The board approved the contract with Jeromy BROWN as the new secondary English teacher, speech coach, yearbook sponsor and drama director.

The board also approved the resignation of Sheri ROHRER as an early childhood para-professional.

The board also approved fund-raising projects for the senior class, junior class, and archery team. The seniors will sell "Power" T-shirts, with funds going to senior trip and graduation expenses. Any leftover funds will be used for a class gift to the school.

The junior class held various Labor Day activities and will add a cookie sheet and fruit sale, a nickel can drive, a food sales campaign, arent-a-kid activity, the sale of cookbooks, and a local luncheon. Junior funds will be used for prom and senior trip.

The archery team with hold a bake sale at Bunn-O-Matic in Creston, conduct a T-shirt sale, and sponsor an archery fun night to raise funds for the national archery competition and team equipment.
