Grand Valley class of 1979 reunion

Ten out of 24 graduates from the Grand Valley high school class of 1979 met last Saturday night, July 18, for a 30-year reunion.

Front row, left to right: Lesley LeAnn (COLEMAN) SMID, Shelly (PATTON) EDDY, Lori SCHWALBE, Lori (BINNING) MORRELL; back row, from left: Ed MINNICK, Kurt CAMPBELL, Randy SIMPSON, Gary WOOLLUMS and Richard WALTERS enjoyed dinner at the Silver Spur Steakhouse in Grand River. Later Carroll ADAMS joined the group at the city's new community center, built on the site of the former elementary school.

While thumbing through school yearbooks from the 1970s, the classmates shared cake and fond memories.

Kurt and Lori M. organized the event and provided updates on absent friends. Rick traveled from New Mexico and Randy from Tennessee to attend.

The only grandpa so far, Gary, expects grandchild number eight in a few months.

Lesley SMID of Marshalltown said, "My Grand Valley classmates have known me longer and better than many of my close friends today and I feel blessed that they're still healthy and still making me laugh."
