F.T.A. COMMENTS
The Grand Valley F.T.A. chapter used "Highlights in Teaching" as the basis for their monthly meetings this year.
The members explored areas such as: the qualties of a good teacher, great teachers, and unusual teaching jobs.
The club visited Iowa State University at Ames for Prospective Teachers Day. While there, each member chose his special
interst and went on a group tour of that department. In November, prospective members and all the parents were invited
to the meeting. Miss Nancy TANNER, an elementary teacher from the Des Moines school system, entertained the group with
some of her own experiences. For a money making project in December, the club sold pecans. It was well-supported by the
people in the surrounding communities. In March, Jon GODDARD, from New Zealand, visited the meeting. He talked and
showed slides of his country to make it a very worthwhile evening. Over the past year, the F.T.A. club has made many
advances, both in learning and in working together.

F.F.A. Comments on 1966-67 Year
A review of the year's accomplishments has once more shown that the Grand Valley Future Farmers of America Chapter has been
successful in many of its enterprises. Supervised farming projects and practices of the individual vocation agriculture boys has
proved valuable experiences for the chapter members. The regular meeting held monthly have developed numerous opportunities for
leadership for each individual boy. Various chapter cooperative projects have also been conducted, such as the pest
eradication contest and corn plots. The chapter was fortunate again in its endeavors to attain the Iowa Championship
of the Funk's G-Hybrid 304 Bushel Challenge Project, a competition in which they produced a yield of 229.47 bushels of corn on
a measured acre in 1966. The Grand Valley boys have won their share of firsts in the 304 Bushel Challenge having been the
all-time high national winner in 1963 with a yield of 271.95 bushels. They were state winners in 1962,
1963, and again in 1966. This record yield was produced on the Dalton McCUTCHAN farm operated by the Roy FOLAND family at
Grand River. The school and the community should be justly proud of the achievement of the vocational agricultural
department in 1966, as well as its record of the past.
