Mount Ayr sophomore crowned
Miss Iowa Teen American Coed

By LEIGH JAMES

Miranda WAUGH was crowned the Miss Iowa Teen American Coed 2014 at the National American Miss Pagent in Minneapolis, MIN the week of March 27-29.

WAUGH, daughter of Danny (Kris) WAUGH of Leon and Denyse (Kyle) SCOTT of Ellston, is a sophomore attending Mount Ayr Community high school.

This November during the week of Thanksgiving, she and all of her sister queens along with all the other girls throughout the country who will be crowned this summer will attend the National Pageant in Orlando, FL. There they will be representing their states and competing for the national title in each age division.

There are seven different age divisions: princess, sweetheart, preteen, junior teen, teen and coed. WAUGH'S sister Emily WAUGH participated in the Sweetheart Division and awsa also crowned the Miss Iowa Sweetheart American Coed 2014.

Competitons were held all day Saturday and rehearsals for the finals sector of the pageant was held on Sunday. Saturday night ended with the evening wear competition. Sunday started with an early morning dance rehearsal and run-through for the final pageant competition that night. Once that was all finished, the contestant had the interview competition.

The interview portion plays a very large role in the overall score. In this competition the contestants were taken by groups of four into a room where four judges were seated. Each judge talked to each contestant individually.

Once this competition was over, it was time to wait until the final pageant where the crowning of the new Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota queens took place.

"I met so many amazing people this weekend and can't wait to share this experience with all my new amazing sister queens," WAUGH stated.
