 Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 19, 2015, Page 15

Tyler Triggs (right) of Mount Ayr was recently presented a $1,500 scholarship from the Iowa Pork Producers by Alex Conover from Holstein (left) and IPPA Producer Outreach director Stephanie Carlson. Triggs is the son of Kevin Triggs and Kathy Triggs of Mount Ayr.

Starting with a lone sow, Tyler Triggs and his brother Johnathan have built a herd of 30 purebred sows. Showing very successfully at the county, state and national level, the Triggs won the Premier Spotted Exhibitor of 2014 National Barrow Show and had the Grand Champsion Spotted Gilt at the 2014 World Pork Expo. Tyler also has started a small herd of production cattle.

Triggs served as president of his FFA chapter and it went from having no Iowa Degree Awards to five during his tenure. He personally was named Star Chapter Farmer and received the Iowa Farmer Degree.

Tyler survived childhood cancer which put a strain on the availability of college funds; however, he was determined to enter Iowa State University this fall and obtain a degree in animal science/agricultural business. After graduation he plans to continue the family tradition of raising and showing swine, as well as expanding the operation to include a boar stud.
