Ringgold residents named to state boards

Five Ringgold county citizens were recently appointed by Governor Terry Branstad to state boards to assume the roles in public policy-making. Tracee KNAPP, Mary K. OVERHOLTZER, Brandy SHAY, Doug SOBOTKA, and Adam TRIGGS were among a number of new appointees who gathered in Des Moines for official recognition.

KNAPP was appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission for District 5. Her appointment runs through January 31, 2018.

TRIGGS, SHAY, and SOBOTKA were appointed to the STEM Advisory Board of the Southwest Iowa District for a three-year term. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. It is an educational initiative currently under development across the state.

OVERHOLTZER was appointed to the Board of Educational Examiners until April 2013 with possibilities of reappointment.

An orientation session took place on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the State Historical Building. Topics provided legal overviews for the new board and commission members that entailed gift laws and conflicts of interest in sales of goods and services. The training session discussed the administrative rules process and differences between laws and rules. A great deal of discussion centered on the importance of open meetings, public records and administrative rules.

Following the training, all state appointees were invited to Terrace Hill for a reception of autumn punch, cookies and pictures with Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds.
