Spring Poetry
The Ringgold Record: The editor of the Chariton Herald was troubled with a fit of jealousy last week.
Evidently the Herald has not received any spring poetry and the editor seems to take keen delight in poking
fun at the poem published in the Record entitled "Spring." The "green-eyed monster" prompted the editor to
say that the "poem is distinguised from prose by the use of the word 'opes' for opens, 'neath' for beneath and
'cometh' for comes. The Record always supposed that Sam GREENE was a braod and liberal editor and did not
permit his jealousies to control his utterances. Just now poets are in great demand in the president's cabinet, and
if the Record's spring poet is as fortunate as some other poets have been in getting cabinet positions, the
Herald editor will have to change his tune.
