Veterans memorial in Kellerton

Kellerton American Legion Post #676 is working on a monument honoring all veterans buried in the Maple Row Cemetery located on the southeast edge of Kellerton. At the present time [2007] there are over 150 veterans buried in this cemetery. The project has been planned for several years and this past month the ground breaking and laying of the red brick work for the monument was completed.

Two veterans - Steve Harrell and Grady McCallum - who were visiting relatives in Kellerton, offered to donate the bricklayhing. A sheet of steel will be placed in the opening with the names of the veterans buried in the cemetery engraved on the metal sheet.

Area citizens are being asked for assistance in check the spelling of names and making tax deductible contributions to help pay for the engraving. A total of some $1,500 is still needed for the engraving, which costs about $15 a name.

Anyone wanting to make a contribution for the engraving can contact commander Paul Fifer for further information.
