Jay-Lynn-O Tours play sand courses

Jay-Lynn-O Tours was at it again - golfing for charity and having fun with with it.

Lynn RINEHART and Jay WATSON organized a "Land-in-the Sand Tour" to raise money for Camp Courageous of Iowa recently. Eight men, four twosomes, started their tour in Grant City, MO to hit nine holes of best-shot golf on sand courses.

"There aren't too many sand golf courses around anymore," said RINEHART. "But we were able to find three close to home in Grant City and Princeton, MO and Humeston."

It just so happens that the RINEHART/WATSON team won their own tournament with a total score of 117. Other participating were Gary BAILEY, Dan CUNNING, Cecil DOLECHECK, Tom KELLY, Randy McDONNELL and Bob SHAFER.

Along with golfing in the sand, Jay-Lynn-O Tours held a "Land-in-the-Sand Raffle" with winners drawn during stag night at the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club last week. Grand prize winner of a Cleveland Launcher 330 driver was Ben KNAPP. First prize of a one-night stay at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown was won by Ed FORD and a second prize of a putter, Rainkist sport umbrella and cooler was won by Bernard CRAWFORD.

"We decided to slow down a bit and make it easier on us this year," added RINEHART. "We've asked our wives to join us to Monticello to present Camp Courageous with a check worth $1,700 next week."

While in eastern Iowa, they plan to play a little golf in Dubuque and Galena, IL.

Other money for Camp Courageous also came from the sales of knickers at Lynn's Texaco Food Mart. Each knicker cost $1.00.

Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities, funded through donations.

Everything donated to the camp is used for the campers. It is strictly funded by the donations.

Anyone who would like to make a donation at Camp Courageous can still do so. For more information about Camp Courageous, visit the camp's web page at www.campcourageous.org.
