C. E. HOOVER, DELPHOS vs. CHICAGO, BURLINGTON & QUINCY RAILROAD COMPANY
CROSSING AND CATTLE GUARD Filed June 29, 1889
On June 27, C. E. HOOVER, of Delphos, Iowa, complained against the above company on account of inadequate farm crossing
and cattle guards. He represents that the railroad runs diagonally across his farm, cutting off over twenty acres of it,
together with a pool, hydrant, etc., his only watering privileges for stock, and between them and his home; that he is
compelled to drive his stock across the track daily to water, at great risk and requiring additional help; that the
company agreed in the contract for right of way, to put in a good and sufficient crossing, but have not done so.
The respondent company, in response to a copy of complaint, replies. September 7, acknowledging receipts and promising
prompt attention. September 11, Mr. RIPLEY, general manager, writes that an under-crossing had been agreed on with
complainant, and would be constructed at once.
September 20, Mr. HOOVER acknowledges the completion of a satisfactory crossing, and asks case closed.
