Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Burned out bodies of three vehicles stand among the remains of the garage behind the home of Kenny and Brenda Grose in Mount Ayr following Sunday afternoon's fair, which engulfed the garage and spred to the house, doing damage to the exterior and interior of the home.

Garage, house fire does major damage
to Grose home in Mount Ayr Sunday

A fire Sunday afternoon destroyed a garage and caused major exterior and interior damage to the home of Kenny and Brenda GROSE in Mount Ayr.

A call came in at 2:52 p.m. that the garage was on fire. By the time the Mount Ayr volunteer fire department arrived on the scene the fire was spreading from the garage to the house.

The fire completely destroyed the garage and the three vehicles that were in it and spread to the house, where it did major exterior damage. The interior received major fire, smoke and water damage as well.

The state fire marshal's ofice was sending an investigator Tuesday to assist the Ringgold county shefiff's office and the Mount Ayr volunteer fire department in determining the cause of the fire.

The Kellerton and Diagonal fire departments were called to help the Mount Ayr volunteer fire department in fighting the intense blaze, fanned by strong winds.

Several efforts are underway to help the GROSE family, who will have to live in temporary houseing until work can be done to make their home liveable.

A come and go household shower will be held at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Jodie WURSTER will be on hand to take orders. For questions, contact Amy SICKELS at 464-2453.

Members of the First Christian Church are also invited to bring items for the family to church services on Sunday.
