The remains of the home of Beau and Shannon Ebersole and family of rural Mount Ayr
were still smoking Monday morning after fire destroyed it Sunday evening
Area home destroyed by fire
An early morning fire Sunday completely destroyed the home of Beau and Shanen EBERSOLE and their three children eight miles
northeast of Mount Ayr at 19352 80th Avenue. The EBERSOLE family was working with some cattle on a farm near Grand River
when a neighbor saw smoke coming from their property and called them. They had left their home about 4:15 p.m. and the
smoke was spotted about 6:15 p.m. The neighbor went to check on the property when the EBERSOLES said they weren't home
and didn't have a fire going. The back porch and laundry room were already gone when the neighbor arrived and called
the fire department. The residence was totally destroyed with nothing able to be saved. The Mount Ayr volunteer
fire department, Kellerton and Union township fire departments all responded to the scene, as well as the Ringgold County
Ambulance and sheriff's office. The EBERSOLES said they were just glad that they had taken their daughters with them
when they went to the other farm. There were no injuries in the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been
determined and may be hard to determine as the home was completely destroyed. The EBERSOLES are living in a travel
trailer at the site for the present. Farmers Cooperative is hosting a freewill barbecue Saturday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. with proceeds going to help the family with expenses.
