Clough horses open season strong
Al Clough’s horse "Call In" races to victory in a recent race at Prairie Meadows in Des Moines.
With the opening of horse racing at Prairie Meadows in Des Moines on April 22, Al CLOUGH of Sun Valley Lake has started
three horses and had a win and tow second place finishes. On opening night in the first race, CLOUGH'S five-year-old
mare "Viva Blaylock" lost by a neck and was second to a mare she had beaten by a head a month earlier in New Mexico. "Viva
Blaylock" hwas won six races with lifetime earnings over $85,000. The first and third place mares were claimed out of
the race for $7,500. CLOUGH was glad that "Viva Blaylock" was not claimed.
Four-year-old wins
On May 2, in the last race of the evening, CLOUGH'S four-year-old gelding "Call In" won his second race, coming from
last to first with a purse of $9,500. The next afternoon in the first race of the day, CLOUGH'S four-year-old filly
"Holly and Fir" came from last to finish second to a mare with earnings over $140,000. This is an Iowa Bred race with a
$15,268 purse. CLOUGH lives at Sun Valley Lake near Ellston.

Clough horse is winner
A horse owned by Al CLOUGH of Sun Valley Lake won at one of the longest winning odds of the season at Prairie Meadows
racetrack in Des Moines recently. The four-year-old filly named Holly and Fir led wire to wire and won by 10 lengths
with the jockey never having to use his whip. It was a $7,500 claiming race and the time for the mile was 1:39.8.
With her 60 percent share of the purse at $15,268, her earnings increased to $35,790. With long odds on the horse,
the 10 cent super perfect a wager paid $2,984. CLOUGH just happened to have such a ticket for the race.

Horse breaks $100,000 mark
Viva Blaylock wins another race for Al Clough of Sun Valley Lake
The thoroughbred racing season has ended at Prairie Meadows Race Track in Altoona and Al CLOUGH of Sun Valley
Lake had a personal record when his five-year-old mare Viva Blalock became his first horse to pass $100,000 in
life-time earnings. His previous best had been Miss Homebuilder, who had earned $94,000 in two years before
getting knee chips. On August 5, Viva Blalock won the one and one-sixteenth mile race at Prairie Meadows in
one minute and 48 seconds to earn a purse of $13,500 that put her over the $100,000 mark. The CLOUGH
horses are now racing the fall season at Winnepeg, Canada and will race over the winter at Turf Paradise
in Phoenix.
