Blue ribbon winners at the Area 10 artists art show in Mount Ayr Saturday included:

Six works advance to state from area show
The Ringgold County Artists hosted the Area 10 Iowa Artists art show Saturday at the Southwest Iowa Rural Electric
Cooperative in Mount Ayr with 57 entries exhibited by 21 members, six of which were new. Prizes were awarded by Dr. Dave
JOHNSON, an art professor at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. More than 60 people attended the show. Artists in a nine
county area were eligible to participate in the show. Besides Ringgold county, other area counties included Adair, Adams,
Clarke, Decatur, Madison, Taylor, Union and Warren. Dr. JOHNSON judged and critiqued each work in the show and noted
that there was great improvement in the quality and quantity of work since he was here four years ago. Blue ribbon
winners chosen to advance to the state competition at Fort Dodge Saturday, April 30 included:
Rebecca ABARR, Redding, basket; Doris CURRIER, Indianola, water color; Angie HYNEK, Ellston, water color; Myrna MORRIS,
Lamoni, two water colors; and Elaine TUTOR, Kellerton, water color. Red ribbon winners included: Sherresse BUZARD, Mount
Ayr; Doris CURRIER, Indianola; Lorna HEDINGER, Nodaway; Lily NEWKIRK, Indianola; Marjorie PERRY, Ellston; Elaine TUTOR,
Kellerton. White ribbon winners included: Sheresse BUZARD, Mount Ayr; Laura INGRAM, St. Charles; Sandy MAXA, Lenox;
Patricia PADGITT, Beaconsfield; Virginia POWELL, Mount Ayr and Darwin SNOOK, Grand River. Those receiving honorable
mention were Rebecca ABARR, Redding; Louise COTHRON, Kellerton; Doris CURRIER, Indianola; Hester DERSCHEID, Kellerton;
Patricia PADGITT, Beaconsfield; Marjorie PATCH, Ellston; Virginia POWELL, Mount Ayr; Beverly ROBERTS, Truro (two);
and Karen Van BUSKIRK, Ellston. Judge's choice went to Laura FAUX, Thayer, for her acrylic painting of a child.
Viewer's choice went to Darwin SNOOK, Grand River, for his oil painting "Good Horse and Good Gun." Before the show
in the afternoon, a business meeting was held, led by Louise COTHRON of Kellerton, Area 10 coodinator and Iowa Artist
board member.
Discussion centered on next year's regional show. Beverly ROBERTS of Truro, representing Madison county, volunteered
to be the new area coordinator and host for the 2006 art show. Two new awards were added this year -- viewer's choice
and judge's choice -- and several compliments were received for doing so. Members and guests were invited to
draw numbers for door prizes, which were supplied by show sponsors. Deb DERSCHEID introduced her father, Ron REASONER
of Ellston, who gave a talk and demonstration on wood carving, with quesions answered after the presentation.
