Great Western Bank observing anniversary
Great Western Bank, which has offices in Mount Ayr and Kellerton, is marking its 35th anniversary this year.
A year-long celebration is planned marking the purchase of the first bank by the HAMANN family in 1971. In August 1971, Deryl
HAMANN purchased the Decatur County State Bank in Leon. In the following years, the initial purchase was expanded to
include 19 southern Iowa and northern Missouri banks. Since 2000 several other purchases have added banks in Missouri
and western Iowa. Great Western Bank now operates 30 offices throughout Iowa and northen Missouri, with assets over
$600 million.
