Piano Students attend Piano Fest
Forty piano students from Osceola, Centerville, Lamoni and Mount Ayr met on April 26 for their annual PianoFest. It was
held at the United Baptist Presbyterian Church in Mount. Ayr. This year the featured composer was Johann Sebastian Bach.
He died over 300 years ago, but his music is still appreciated today. There were sessions about Bach's rhythm and ornaments,
a games room and a performance clinic. Dr. Jack Ergo of Graceland University brought a harpsichord for one of the
sessions, demonstrating the instrument that Bach composed with, since he lived in an era before the piano was invented.
Clinicians for the event were Dr. Nathan Smith of Kansas City, MO (formerly of Mount Ayr) and Carol Cason, vocal/band
instructor at MACS elementary. Local students participating were Haylee Fletchall, loryn and Natalie Schaefer, Laruen
Triggs, Jordan and Collin McAlexander, Rachel Sobotka, Rachel Gregg, Laurie Ann Beltzer, Lauren Conklin, Anne James,
Emmalee Schafer, Kaitlyn and Becca Dolecheck, Isaac Thomas, Jill and Tessa Kneip and Anna Newton. Their teacher is
Nancy Sackett.
