A Mount Ayr community high school junior has been named to play the tuba in the 1991 Iowa All-State band. Nathan Smith of Mount Ayr attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected to the state ensemble.

One of the 25 Soviet Agri-business practitioners scheduled to stay in Iowa for four months arrived in Leon August 24 and will be in Ringgold county from November 10 to December 2. Andrei Nikolaiev will come to the Dick Derscheid farm November 10 and then will spend some time at the Dick Jackson farm, both in rural Kellerton, before leaving Ringgold county December 2.

Both the Raider and Raiderette cross country teams qualified for the state meet to be held Saturday on the Veenker course on the Iowa State University campus in Ames. Both teams placed third in the district meets to gain the invitation to the state IA meet.
