RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 31, 1960

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

A membership drive is being conducted in Ringgold county by members of the Ringgold County Hospital Auxiliary. The dues of one dollar per year are being designated towards the purchase of a second incubator for the county hospital, which is greatly needed. Mrs. C. M. CAMP is serving as town chairman.

The Mount Ayr Community school board of education voted to close the three remaining rual schools in the county: two in Lotts Creek Township and one in Poe Township. The savings in the operation of the three schools will offset the amount in salary increases. Resignations, which were submitted by Mrs. Walter E. ROBERTS, instrumental music instructor, and Mrs. W. B. BUELL, vocal music instructor, were accepted by the board. Mrs. ROBERTS and Mrs. BUELL are serving the grade schools in the towns of Tingley, Ellston, Beaconsfield, Delphos, Maloy and Redding.

A fire, which occurred Saturday afternoon in Anthony's department store, caused an estimated damage of $200 to window fixtures and wiring. The blaze, discovered about 1:30 p.m. in a stockroom beneath an upstairs office by Glendon SMITH, an employee, was quickly extinguished by members of the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department. Customers in the store at the time cooperated with employees in covering merchandise to prevent smoke damage. Art SCHMIDT serves as manager of the store.
