RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 31, 1989

Kasey Dredge, Mount Ayr Record-News

Shellway Drive in Mount Ayr has been lined with fallen tree limbs and several local yards display big threes that didn't get out of the way of the lightning and strong winds. The storm mellowed by Sunday and Monday moning and was mostly rain-producing at a more gentle rate. A total rainfall of 3.66 inches Saturday through Sunday was met with smiles. Those at priate residences, who were cathing rain water to use in the economic conservation drive of recent months, were having difficulty keeping up.

One of the new features of the Ayr Days celebration in Mount Ayr this year will be historic tours of Ringgold County held during Sunday afternoon, September 10.

The Mount Ayr American Legion and American Legion Auziliary met Monday, August 14 to hear the reports of the Boys and Girls State representatives. A covered dish dinner was enjoyed by members of both organizations. Christy BICKERS, the Auxiliary Girls State representative,; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary BICKERS, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray BATTIN, and Shonn MAPES, the Legion's Boys State representaive were guests. Shonn's parents were unable to attend.

Aera residents will be able to choose the Ayr Days baby contest winner in voting from now until September 8. There are nine area babies entered and they are: John WALSH, Matthew WIMER, Stephanie KIBBE, Courtney WEEDA, Derrick DREDGE, Allison WALTERS, Tyler HOSFIELD and Brennon SHIELDS.
