Nominating petitions were filed Tuesday for Ralph BRAMMER of Rice township for director of the Mount Ayr Community school district from director district No. 4. Papers were filed earlier for Barton ABARR of Redding for the same position. Both men are candidates to succeed Harold COMBS of Redding who is not a candidate.

Jimmy HOFFMAN showed the champion baby beef and Monte AKERS the champion market pig at the Kellerton Livestock Show which was held Friday during the annual Kellerton Reunion.

Lyle FARIS exhibited hogs Friday and Saturday in the F.F.A. division of the Iowa State Fair and won a blue and one red ribbon on his barrows and with a boar placed high in a class with stiff competition.

Schools opened Monday in the six centers of the Mount Ayr community school district with an enrollment of 1,284, which number is 38 less than in 1960, and 26 less than the expected enrollment of 1,310. The enrollment in the elementary grades in the six centers is 879, decrease of 76 from last year's total of 955. High school enrollees number 407 or 40 more than the preceding year.

Dale BICKEL of Mount Ayr is one of 38 young Iowa farm youths selected to take part in the 11th Annual Iowa Farm Youth Tour, sponsored by the Iowa Development Commission.

Six Ringgold county 4-H girls are attending the Iowa State Fair today (Thursday) in Des Moines as award winners. The girls, Mary Suzanne JENNINGS and Donna HOSFIELD of Ellston, Diane DAILEY and Marla Kay EURITT of Mount Ayr and Dorothy KINNE and Mary WALLER of Tingley are members of the junior project and junior special activitiy teams, which were rated tops during the Ringgold County Fair held recently.

Fifty-three football candidates have reported to head coach Joe McNEILL and assistant coaches Chet ROED, Roy MULLENAX and Doyle THOMAS. The Raiders have nine returning lettermen, five from the senior rank and four from under-classes.

A team of horses, owned by W.H. (Mike) MORGAN, of Rice township placed second in the lightweight division of the Iowa State Fair team pulling contest. The same team, entered in the middleweight division, placed fourth. The team was driven by Ora Miller.
