Darin Stephens was named valedictorian and Stacey Larsen was named salutatorian ofthe Diagonal Community high school class of 1991 at graduation ceremonies May 24.

Personnel matters headed the list of itemsdiscussed by the Diagonal school board at its April meeting, minutes of which were released this week. The board voted to terminate five teachers at the meeting - Becky Backer, Ed Geitz, Ron Riegel, Deb Schutt and Jay Sweet - at the recommendation of superintendent Dennis Tassell.

Russell Hensley, son of Dianna and Gary Hensley of rural Mount Ayr, and Russell Shields, son of Sandy and Ronnie Shields of rural Ellston, have been named by the Mount Ayr American Legion Post No. 172 as delegates to this year's Boys State.
