Due to the fact that Side Hill Liberty No. 4 school in Ringgold county, Iowa, will no longer exist as a school, all
former pupils, teachers, patrons and families are invited to attend a homecoming to be held Sunday, August 16, at the
schoolhouse.
Roy G. LAWSON, 34, of Lubbock, TX, suffered the loss of his right arm and other serious injuries Monday evening when
a stick of dynamite exploded in his hand. Mr. LAWSON was taken to the Ringgold County Hospital, and following emergency
treatment, was transferred to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Mr. LAWSON was preparing to destroy fish in a pond
on the Jack MOORE farm, two miles east of Mount Ayr, when a stick of dynamite exploded in his right hand. He also
suffered injuries to the right side of his head and body. Mr. LAWSON had been in Mount Ayr about a week helping
construct grain storage bins for the Iowa Grain Company.
Everett KIMBALL is one of 12 Iowa Future Farmers of America to be awarded prebred sheep flocks, announcement of which
has been received from the State of Iowa Department of Public Instruction, Division of Vocational Education. The flock
of Shropshire, which Everett will receive this week, includes 10 purebred ewes and a ram. Each flock, valued at
$600 to $700, is awarded to a FFA member for a two-year period. At the close of the period 10 ewes and a ram are selected
to award to another member.
Lucille FARIS and Garry WION went Monday to the State 4-H Camp near Madrid as representatives of the girls and boys 4-H clubs
of Ringgold county. Lucille, a seven-year member of the Gay Farmettes 4-H Club, and county 4-H girls vice-president, is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur FARIS of Mount Ayr. Her leaders are Mrs. Dale BLACK and Mrs. Marvin MAIN. The son of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul WION of Beaconsfield, Garry is the boys county 4-H president. He has been a member of the Beacon
Bombers 4-H club for seven years and his present leader is Ray STANLEY.
