Named the top two graduates of the
Mount Ayr Community class of 1986 were valedictorian Stacy CUNNING and salutatorian Doug SAVILLE. Commencement exercises
Sunday afternoon and senior award Friday, May 23, marked the end of the high school experiences for the 62 members of the
Mount Ayr Community high school class of 1986.
Ralph BRAMMER was named to fill the vacancy on the Mount Ayr Community school board
in a special meeting of the board Thursday, May 22. BRAMMER will fill the term of Brenda BABCOCK, who resigned her position
May 12. She and her family plan to move out of Mount Ayr soon.
Dan ROE will begin duties July 1 as superintendent of Davis county schools. The school system has approximately
1,600 students, kindergarten through 12th grade, and is
believed to be the largest school in land area in Iowa. The school serves the whole county. Mr. and Mrs. ROE (the former
Marla Kay EURITT) and their two-year-old son, Michael, will make their home in Bloomfield. ROE is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Bob ROE of Mount Ayr.
Terry MERCER, Mount Ayr community
high school senior, will be Ringgold county's only representative at the state boys track meet in Des Moines this week.
who will be running the 400 meter hurdles, is set to participate Saturday afternoon at the Drake stadium. MERCER,
earned the trip by placing first at the district track meet last week.
David WEEDA took a clean sweep of the street stock
action and two other area drivers placed in the NASCAR Grand American late model racing at the Adams County Speedway in
Corning Saturday. In the street stock action, Dave WEEDA won his heat, the trophy dash and the A-feature.
Dick ELLIOTT of Mount Ayr placed ninth and Ron BINNING of Grand River placed 15th in the A-feature of the NASCAR Grand
American late model class.
With everyone back from the team that made it
to the state baseball tournament last fall, the Grand Valley Community Tigers are looking for another top campaign.
"Strong senior leadership will be a big plus for us as well as strong pitching and defense," Coach Charles McLAUGHLIN
said this week. Four seniors will be back for the squad -- outfielders Tracy LESAN and Dennis STARK, catcher Jack
VANDERFLUGHT and first baseman Chad HEWLETT.
