Mrs. Eleanor LYNCH, who has been associated with the Mowry Beauty Shop for the past year, has opened a beauty shop, which will be known as "Eleanor's Beauty Shop," in Hotel Grand in Kellerton.

Catherine BEVINGTON, sophomore in the Mount Ayr High School, won fourth place in the state student essay contest sponsored by the American Legion of Iowa. The essay was "Why National Defense is the Best Insurance Against War." Catherine is the 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto BEVINGTON, and a member of the editorial staff of the high school paper, the Student Ayr, and of the high school band and serves as secretary of the Junior American Legion Auxiliary.

Ruby Anderson commence work Monday as a waitress at Bryant's Sandwich Shop.

Georgine SLAVIK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Antone SLAVIK, of Diagnal, and Lyle SWANK, of Diagonal, were united in marriage February 26, in the Methodist parsonage in Mount Ayr, with Rev. Thomas KELLY officiating. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Paul DOLECHECK.

  • Born, February 24. to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond BARKER, a daughter, Donna Mae. Weight, nine and one-half pounds.
  • Born, February 25. to Mr. and Mrs. Wendall HILL, of Caledonia, a son, Lyndall W. Weight, seven and one-half pounds.
