Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 28, 1982

by Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

A suspension bridge and platform bridge have been built on the Poe Hollow Park nature trail as a project by the senior vocational agriculture class of Mount Ayr Community high school. The seniors have been working in cooperation with instructor Jack COOK and Ringgold County Conservation Board executive officer Rick HAWKINS to get the nature trail back in shape as part of a three-year Build Our American Communities project. A tree survey and construction of a third bridge on the nature trail will be accomplished by the junior class. Seniors working on the bridges were Mike WIMER, Larry JARRED, Stacey HAMILTON, Mike McGEHEE, Daron RICHIE, Eric DREDGE, Mark CLINE, Paul GLENDENNING, Ron SWANSON, Scott DERSCHIED and Jeff KIENE.

Mrs. Maxine CARR of Mount Ayr talked about Luke SHAY, first Irish settler in Maloy, and discussed the history of Maloy as well for Mount Ayur Community sixth grade students who visited Maloy last week as part of their study of Iowa History.

Sunday, October 24, the closing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Maloy took place.
