The ribbon cutting ceremony, signifying the grand opening of the expanded Western Auto Store in Mount Ayr was held June 28.
A 10-day grand opening sale will be in effect through July 8, according to owners Gerald and Brenda BABCOCK. After eight
years of business here at their location at 116 N. Taylor Street, the BABCOCKS expanded their plant with [the] attachment
of an L-shaped building to the south and east sides. Staff included: Murial JOHNSON, Linda JOHNSON, Lori KING and Deanna
DRAKE.
A life membership in the Iowa State Education Association has been awarded o Vance GEIGER of redding. GEIGER was a
teacher in Mount Ayr for 18 years before retiring.
Area students who received a degree from the Univeristy of Iowa at spring commencement ceremonies held May 19 were
Bruce RICKER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob RICKER of Mount Ayr, bachelor of science degree in general science; and Steven
SMITH of Clearfield, bachelor of science in computer science.
Ten members of the Mount Ayr Boy Scout Troop 165 went to Camp Cedars southwest of Fremont, NE. Those involved were
Tom KINTON (SPL), David NOBLE (PL), Jeff FLETCHALL, Donnie BRYAN, Richard BUTLER, Randy SWEET (FL), Gary BAKER, Tim
BUCHNER, Jimmy GRAHAM and Marty SCHNOOR. Adult leaders were Max BUCKNER, Mark VERSCH and Rev. Phil KINTON.
The MACH Raiderettes continued down the winning path in recent softball action as they defeated three Tall Corn
conference teams. Mike FLEMING'S girls beat Villisca 12-0 in three innings here last Thursday as Shelly COLLIER hurled a
perfect game. Hitting for the Raiderettes were Terrinda KLOMMHAUS with a home run and Amy SOUTH and Sherrie BALLARD, each
with two singles.
