RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 28, 1955

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Lloyd E. SHAW was ordained and installed as pastor of the Mount Ayr United Presbyterian church during services held Tuesday evening of last week in the local church.

Elmore ERICKSON is the new Mount Ayr Lions Club president. He was installed at the Lions Club meeting held last Wednesday evening. Elmore, who is the manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store, succeeds Dr. B. W. KNIGHT, who capably served as president for the past year.

Ronald (Bud) BEYMER, filling station operator at Diagonal and area distributor for a self-propelled irrigation system, was injured in a freak accident Friday evening about 7 p.m., which happened about five miles northwest of Diagonal. While checking on some trucks which were engaged in irrigation work near Diagonal, BEYMER noticed a light plane, owned by the Dyersburg Aerial Spray Co. of Dyersburg, TN which was in the process of spraying crops and stopped to watch the operation.

As BEYMER alighted from his car, the plane flew over at a low altitude and one of its wheels struck and snapped a telephone line. The broken line, approximately 300 feet in length, was wrapped around BEYMER and his car, tore his T-shirt to shreds and inflicted a number of welts and bruises. His car was damaged to the extent of approximately $300.

BEYMER returned to his car and drove to the Ed GARST farm, a distance of a quarter of a mile, and Mr. GARST and Glen ROUTH, who was at the farm, took BEYMER to Diagonal for medical treatment.

Two International Farm Youth Exchangees from India will spend time in Ringgold county this summer and fall, according to Verdon PAYNE, county extension director. These exchangees will stay with the Lee DAVENPORTS of Diagonal and the Ray POTTORFFS of Lamoni.

Amarappa PATEL and Jawaharial UJAONEY are the Indian boys who will be in this county. PATEL will stay with the DAVENPORTS during August and UJAONEY will stay with the POTTORFF family during October.
