A former Ringgold Countian, Peggy Whitson, daughter of Keith and Beth Whitson of rural Beaconsfield, was part of an unusual venture in the U.S.S.R. in December of 1990. She was sent to Moscow for a week by NASA as part of the United States/USSR Joint Working Group on Space Medicine and Biology.

Roger Kerndt, who was president and chief executive officer at Hawkeye Bank and Trust in Mount Ayr from September 1983 to March of 1987, has accepted a new position in Atlantic. Kerndt has been named president of the Rolling Hills National Bank effective January 28.
