For the ninth year in a row, Ringgold county farmland moved up in value -- with the percentage increase above
the state average for the first time in several years. Farmland values in Ringgold county went up 9.3 percent --
well above the 7.3 percent state average, but less than south central Iowa's regional average of 10.3 percent.
Rideta Electric Cooperative of Mount Ayr was among nine rural electric cooperatives in Iowa honored for their safety
achievements at the 54th annual meeting of the Iowa Association of Electric cooperatives held in Des Moines recently.
The cooperatives earned the safety award by working with the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperative's safety
and loss control staff.
The East Fork Grand River Watershed includes all major and minor tributaries of the East Fork Grand River stretching
from the Worth and Gentry County, MO lines at Denver, MO north into Union county just south of Arispe. This river and
its drainage ways fall between the towns of Mount Ayr and Kellerton and north between Tingley and Ellston. The
primary purpose of the watershed project is flood reduction. Once the majority of the structures are completed,
downstream landowners will see a significant reduction in flooding on bottmland fields. The watershed plan consists of
220 small, single purpose flood water retarding dams and two multiple purpose dams. The multiple purpose dams provide
flood prevention; fish, wildlife and recreational development and a rural water supply. There are 168,400 acres in
the watershed of which 102,000 acres are in Iowa. There are 180 of these single purpose structures and one
multiple purpose structure located in Iowa.
