This year there will be 10 new teachers on the staff at Mount Ayr Community school, down slightly from the 11 new teachers hired during the 1985-86 school year. Martin ALDRICH will be the new instrumental music instructor; Teri CAMPBELL, the new Spanish teacher; Sue CRAIN, a new sixth grade teacher; Jodie GEIST, special education; Susan GREENE, the new vocal music teacher; Doug McKERN, driver's education instructor, elementary physical eduction instructor, junior high football coach and varsity girls basketball coach; John McGILLIGAN, elementary instrumental music and fourth through sixth grade computer; John NEWTON, art instructor; Brian ROBINSON, biology and health instructor, and Sharon SMITH, the new business and English teacher for the high school.

Clearfield school hired Keith GILLESPIE of Rolfe as superintendent. He replaces Otto FAABORG who re-signed to accept a superintendent's position at YJB Community school in Bagley.

Five potatoes grew together in the garden of Orlin MURPHY of Redding to form a frog potato, complete with eye bumps and four legs. The Kennebec potato weighed two and one-fourth pounds and was found in the final hill of potatoes in the garden.

Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes will have five seniors on the squad for the 1986 volleyball campaign. Those players include Kim WILLIS, co-captain, Angie SMITH, Melanie MURPHY, Karla KINTON and Shelly TAYLOR, co-captain.

Diagonal Community school begins school Tuesday, Sept. 2. This year there will be students from the Diagonal schools only. Last year there was a sharing with Clearfield. There will be five new teachers and one with a change in assignment. Kerri McALEXANDER will teach third grade instead of remedial reading. The remedial reading classes will be taken over by Mauricsa HOFFMAN of Creston. Kay CAREY of Mount Ayr will have high school English and Spanish. Maxine NORRIS of Creston will have sixth grade. JoAnn EASON of Waukee will have fifth grade and Verleta SCHRODT (CHUBICK) of Creston will be the new kindergarten teacher.
