For the third year in a row, Sean THOMAS of Mount Ayr will be singing in the all-state chorus, attaining the highest
honor available to Iowa high school musicians. THOMAS, who sings bass, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert THOMAS of
Mount Ayr and a vocal studnet of Susan GREEN at the Mount Ayr Community high school.
The Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter soils judging team won a gold at districts and received a silver in the state
judging contest recently. The team of Wendy WALLACE, Brian COOK, Paul WEIGELAND, Marcy MILLER placed second and won
a gold medal at the district meet in Knoxville Oct. 11. Marcy MILLER was the fourth high individual and Brian COOK
ws the seventh high individual in the contest.
Two Tae Kwon Do students from Mount Ayr received medals at the seventh annual Iowa State University Tae Kwon Do
champsionship held October 15 in Ames. Shirley HIGHSHOE of Mount Ayr won second in forms and second in sparring for
her division in the competition and Jennifer SCHAEFER received a thrid place medal in forms in her division. Lance
BARKER also attended the competition.
The SHELBY-GRUNDY Experimental Farm, located three-quarters of a mile north of Beaconsfield, sold at auction Friday,
Oct. 1. Richard TIDMAN of New Market bought the 320-acre farm for $430 an acre, or $1,276.00. TIDMAN, his wife, Susan,
and their two sons, ages 1 and six years, are sheep producers and will be given possession at least by March 1, 1989. There
is a possibility that they we be moving to the area at an earlier date.
The Iowa Department of Public Health recently announced that Ringgold County Ambulance Service of Mount Ayr was among
30 ambulance services selected to participate in a statewide pilot project relating to the use of paramedics in
rural communities.
