RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 27, 1966

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

James Everett Collier, 36, and Robert A. Davis, 19, of Sheridan, MO., were killed Friday afternoon about four o'clock when they were struck by lightning on the LeRoy Bucy, Jr. farm near Benton.

A Ringgold county soldier has returned recently from the battlefields of South Vietnam. He is Shelby D. Bullock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Bullock of Ellston.

Army private Maurice E. Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olin V. Hoffman, RFD, Mount Ayr, recently received outstanding recognition when he was designated the honor graduate in an accelerated class which completed in five weeks, a regularly scheduled eight-week course, in food inspection procedures at the U. S. Army medical service Veterinary school in Chicago, IL. One of 11 high-potential students selected for the accelerated course, Hoffman was awarded at graduation a special diploma and letter of commendation.

A new pastor is now serving at the Mount Ayr Lutheran Church. He is Dr. George Vogel of Greenfield, who served the Greenfield church for many years and is now retired.

Cash and checks totaling $331.76 were taken from the safe at the Andy Johnston Chevrolet Company, located on Highway 2, between the hours of 7 p.m. Friday and 7:15 a.m. Saturday.
