Maggie GILLILAND was valedictorian and Anna RUSK was salutatorian when the Mount Ayr Community high school class of 2004
was graduated at commencement ceremonies Sunday afternoon.
Approval of the resurfacing of the high school track, personnel discussion including accepting the resignation of long-time
high school secretary Jolene GOURLEY and approval of a school budget amendment were part of a special meeting of the
Mount Ayr Community school board Monday night.
A Mount Ayr Community high school student, Christopher Scott WHITSON, is the winner of one of the 291 scholarships presented
this year by the MFA Foundation.
Five Mount Ayr Community high school students took part in the state Special Olympics in Ames over the weekend. They were:
Aaron SHIELDS, Liz KILGORE, Kristyn FORD, Caden MONIER and Beth ELSWICK.
A Mount Ayr resident, Courtney WEEDA has been named a United States National Award winner in English by the U. S.
Achievement Academy.
Mount Ayr Community elementary Title I teacher, Valle SMITH, was presented the Dekko Foundation Teach to Reach award for
the Mount Ayr Community school district by MACHS senior Heidi WINKLER, who nominated her.
Mount Ayr Community special education teacher Kathy RINEHART was presented the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year award for the
Creston store area in a ceremony this past week.
[Justin] REDDING won a playoff to take first place in the Class 2A district golf tournament held at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny
Friday to qualify for state.
Freshman Amanda PENNINGTON brought home a personal best time and an eighth place finish from the Class 2A girls state track
meet in Des Moines, Saturday.
Gina GUNSOLLEY will represent the Diagonal Community high school at the state Class 1A golf tournament in Des Moines Tuesday,
June 1 and Wednesday, June 2.
