Nolan HOWIE qualified for the state golf tournament as an individual after shooting the second best individual total in
the Class 2A district golf tournament at Colfax Friday. To earn his trip to state as an individual, HOWIE shot rounds of
38 ad 37 for a 75 total for the day.
State qualifiers from Mount Ayr Community Raider boys track team for the state track meet Friday and Saturday in
Des Moines include Jeremy BURMEISTER, Brett SHIELDS, Scott RUMPLE, Landry McGAHUEY and Brad ELLIOTT.
James UHLENKAMP who teaches German and English in the Mount Ayr Community school district, was presented with the DEKKO
Award for Teaching Excellence at the senior awards day in Mount Ayr Thursday. Cara SMITH read the letter of nomination
that she had written which brought the award to UHLENKAMP.
Mildred ELLIOTT of Mount Ayr will be honored by the Iowa Board of Corections when it holds its meeting June 4 at
the Ringgold county courthouse. Until resigning recently, ELLIOTT was chairman of the board.
Three young women and one young man led the graduating classes at Ringgold county area high schools when top
academic honors were announced last week. Those four students were Rachel DERSCHEID, Debbie STEPHENS, Bobbi SCHLAPIA
and Adam STEPHENS.
The top 10 academic students were named from the Mount Ayr Community high school graduating class. They included
Julie ROUDYBUSH, Annie JOHNSON, Tricia ROUTH, Debbie STEPHENS, Megan PETERSOHN, Laura JONES, Angela HUNT, Michael FARIS,
Cara SMITH and Rachel DERSCHEID.
