RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 27, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

The end of the current year marks the close of a long and successful business career for J. E. (Barney) HORNE, who will retire after being identified with the drug business in Mount Ayr for 45 years. On that date, he will turn the business over to Bill HAROVER, who joined the firm as a partner on January 1, 1956.

Early morning "shoppers" Monday at the Benton service station no doubt finished their Christmas gift list by obtaining money, cigarettes and flashlights in an unorthodox manner. Entrance to the station, owned and operated by Pete CAVENDER, and which was open for business until 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, was gained by breaking out a rear window. The list of "gifts," as determined by Mr. CAVENDER and Sheriff Elbert STRANGE, who investigated the break-in, included $35 in quarters and halves and $10 in dollar bills and two cash registers, 13 cartons of Winston and Camel cigarettes, two cases of beer and four silver and red flashlights.

The TAYLOR Trio of Diagonal will appear as guests on the Ted Mack Amatuer Hour on Sunday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. The program will be carried on KRNT, Channel 8; KCMO, Channel 5; KFEQ, Channel 2, and WOW, Channel 6. Members of the trio, all high school students in the Diagonal Community school, are Twyla and Dixie TAYLOR, daughters of the Wayne TAYLORS, and Barbara TAYLOR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold TAYLOR of Diagonal.

Dale HERRINGTON, director of athletics in the Mount Ayr Community high school and a coach for a period of 23 years, is one of nine coaches appointed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association as members of the association's coaches' advisory committee.
