The Mount Ayr Chapater of the Future Farmers of America has, for the 10th consecutive year, been awarded the state's
top rating of superior on their program of work. Advisor of the local chapter is R. E. HAPUTMANN.
Dedicatory services for the new worship center and parsonage of the Lutheran Mission, located at 403 S. Douglas, will be
held Sunday, August 30, at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker of the occasion will be the Rev. G.A. Kengel of the Zion Lutheran
church in Atlantic, and a circuit counselor. Plans for the mission were started by James DITTMAN, Lay Assistant for the
Lutheran Church Iowa District West, who was recently assigned to southern Iowa and Mount Ayr.
Jerry McALEXANDER and Gene STANLEY of the Beacon Bombers 4-H Club, and Rex GOINS of the Lincoln Hotshots 4-H Club,
represented Ringgold County in the demonstration contest at the Iowa State Fair. Jerry and Gene had an agriculture
project and Rex demonstrated his skill at ironing clothes.
Sharon BETHARDS, a junior in the Pekin Community High School in Richmond, recently won an all-expense-paid trip
to New York City for a final audition for the Ted Mack Amateur Talent TV Show. Miss BETHARDS, who is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry BETHARDS of Richmond and a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oka BETHARDS of this city, played her
alto saxophone in the preliminary competition at the Keokuk County Fair in What Cheer, and was the only one
selected for the final audition.
