The terms of two Ringgold County Soil Conservation District commissioners, Paul J. SMITH, Blockton, of Clinton
Township, and John SICKELS, Mount Ayr, Washington township, will expire this year.
Mary Sue FOUNTAIN, Ringgold County Hospital administrator, and John OLIVER, director of the Harold Hughes Center, are
inviting the public to visit the new chemical dependency treatment facility during the open house on Saturday, July 28.
Since June 18, the Harold Hughes Center has been receiving patients. The 18-day in-patient program treats adult men
and women. Dr. Duane MITCHELL of Mount Ayr is the medical director of the recovery program.
Billi HUNT of Diagonal and Sandra SMITH of Beaconsfield shared top honors at the Ringgold County 4-H Fashion Revue
and Clothing selection program Friday, July 20, in Mount Ayr. HUNT was named to represent the county at State Fair
clothing selection program in August. SMITH was selected for State Fair in both fashion revue and clothing selection.
Alternate in both events was Lesa STEPHENS of Diagonal, a member of the Washington Workers 4-H Club.
Sandra SMITH'S report of her week as a citizen of the American Legion Auxiliary's Girls State was the highlight of
Tingley's Dewey Unit #515 meeting Wednesday, July 18.
Krista SHAHA isn't the only good guesser in Ringgold county. Betty CONLEY of Maloy also guessed the correct temperature
in KCCI-TV's "Fourth of July High" contest. Instead of receiving tickets to the Iowa Cubs July 27 game like Krista,
Betty received tickets to the Iowa Cubs versus the Louisville Redbirds game on Saturday, August 18.
Tom CARR of Menominee, MI has been transferred by the K-Mart Company to Atlantic to become a manager of their store
there. He began his duties in Atlantic on Monday morning, July 23. CARR is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice CARR.
Roger MORRISON, a Tingley area farmer, received a crushed vertebra when he fell some 15 feet while working at his farm
home in early afternoon Monday, July 23. MORRISON and his son, John, were preparing to do oats and Roger was standing on
some boards fixing the down spout where oats come into the corn crib. When the board gave away, MORRISON dropped onto
a cement floor, according to information given by his daughter, Mrs. Rich MERCER of Tingley. MORRISON is a retired
rural mail carrier and farms and he and his wife, Donna, make their home two miles south of Tingley.
