Winners were chosen Sunday night in the Mount Ayr Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce. Taking first place was the display of Ed and Cindy DUGAN at 205 W. Madison Street in Mount Ayr. Taking second place was the display of Kirk GREENMAN and Laurie COX at 405 W. Washington Street in Mount Ayr. Third place went ot the home of Gary and Debra SAVILLE at 404 W. Monroe in Mount Ayr.

Representing the Mount Ayr Community school district in the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band trip to Arizona next week are Michael SMITH of Mount Ayr, Alicia SHIELDS of Mount Ayr and Chelsea CAMPBELL of Shannon City.

JoKaye SHIELDS celebrated her retirement with a reception at the Mount Ayr Medical Clinic last week. SHIELDS is taking early retirement. On hand for her recognition was Dr. Duane MITCHELL, SHIELDS longtime employer.

Great Western Bank will be the new name for Citizens Bank in Mount Ayr beginning in the first quarter of 2003.

Thirty years of coaching for Mount Ayr Community coach Ron LAMPHAIR were celebrated in a ceremony at half-time of the boys basketball game in Mount Ayr Friday night.
