Four winners were named in the annual Mount Ayr Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Mount Ayr Resource
Commission (MARC) this Christmas. The lighting display of Mr. and Mrs. Larry GILES on West Street was named the
top residential display. Second place went to the display of Mr. and Mrs. Gary ROUDYBUSH at 303 S. Cleveland
and the display of Mr. and Mrs. Steven MITCHELL at 603 E. Jackson placed third in the residential contest.
First place in the commercial contest went to Mount Ayr Parts - SMITH Oi's display on the south side of
the square.
Larry HOPKEY will be installed as the new worshipful master of Faith Lodge No. 179 A.F. & A.M. when the
lodge holds public installation of its 1986 officers Sunday, Dec. 29, at the Masonic Temple in Mount Ayr.
Other 1986 officers include Roger MAIN, senior warden; Lyle FARIS, junior warden; Laurance BISHOP, treasurer;
Eldon MAIN, secretary; Richard ELMER, senior deacon; Merrill PERRY, junior deacon; Rodney FARIS, senior
steward; Scott JOHNSON, junion steward; Malcolm EIGHMY, tyler, and William FRENCH, chaplain.
John ALLEN of Mount Ayr will again chair the young member committee of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau,
Warren ANGUS, county Farm Bureau president, has announced. ALLEN will be assisted by Cindy ALLEN, Gary and
Robin WURSTER of Tingley, Garry and Tricia BJUSTROM of Kellerton and larry and Carol BJUSTROM of Mount Ayr.
Rev. Paul CARTER of the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr presented a check for $2,500 from the American Baptist
World Relief Committee to Rev. Ed KAIL, a member of the Neighbor Helping Neighbor coordinating committee.
A collision with horses on the roadway December 18 sent Bob SMITH of Mount Ayr to Iowa Methodist
Medical Center in Des Moines by Life Flight helicopter. SMITH and his passengers - Cathy COLE of Mount Ayr,
and his brother ans sister-in-law, Bill and Rena SMITH of Mesa, AZ -- were about one and one-helf miles west of
Bevington about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday when the accident happened. They thought there were at least three horses in
their path, one of whichended up on the Cadillac's hood and into the windshield. SMITH received head injuries, including
a concussion, lacerations, glass in his eyes and a chipped vertebra in the neck area.
