Homecoming king and queen for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming include Stephanie NOBLE, Andrea LARSEN,
Heidie WINKLER, Beth GOURLEY and Katy KIMBERLY. King candidates include Raece NIEMAN, Jared ARMSTRONG, Brett YODER,
Dustin ADAMS and Chris WHITSON. Homecoming this year at Mount Ayr Community high school has a new twist because of
shared activities with the Autumn in the Ayr celebration. "100 Years of Raider Heroes" is the theme for the celebration,
which began earlier this week with spirit days. A new event for the Autumn in the Ayr celebration this year will be a
corn maze developed by Dustin WILKEY just south of the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club.
Two Diagonal residents have taken part in recent events in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.
Vicki ALLEN of Diagonal was among 21 Iowa Farm Bureau leaders taking part in a trip to the nation's capitol September 8-11
to learn about national issues affecting agriculture. Tony ALLEN of Diagonal was one of 12 Iowa Farm Bureau members visiting
there September 10-12 to view the U. S. Department of Agriculture September crop report lockup and relase procedures.
Mount Ayr Chapter #356 Order of Eastern Star will be observing their 100th year centennial on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
at the Masonic Lodge in Mount Ayr.
A glance back to threshing in the days of steam was taken at the Carrol SOBOTKA farm near Diagonal recently. A steam
tractor was set up with an old threshing machine and shocks of oats were run through the maching while area people
had the opportunity to see how the work was done in years gone by.
