RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 25, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

You name it and Ringgold county had it in weather Thursday-Friday overnight (Sept. 18-19). Lightning was hitting cattle, knocking out transformers, breakers and household appliances and striking utility poles. Heavy rain, up to six inches in the Sun Valley Lake area, flooded roads. At Diagonal it caused the foundation of Marilyn TINDLE'S house to cave in. About the time some of the lightning subsided and the rains lessened, heavy wind developed.

A box put in the cornerstone at the Middle Fork Church was found Monday. Wendell JACKSON and his son, Kevin, of rural Redding decided to look "just one more time" even though the Middle Fork centennial celebration had concluded Sunday afternoon and they had hoped to share its contents during the event.

Elvis HUNT found a 25-pound fungus in a farm field near Redding. The huge fungus was growing in the ground in the middle of a field.

Six outstanding seniors form the nucleus of the 1986-87 football roster. The seniors include Folkard FRITZ, Vic LILIENTHAL, Johannes LAUERBACH, Omer ADLI, Kevin O'MAILIA and Wayde SHOESMITH.

Farm & Home, Mount Ayr's newest business, is scheduled to open its doors in the former Western Auto building Monday, Sept. 29, according to manager Jerry MARLER. Along with manager Jerry MARLER, Kevin HENRY and Muriel JOHNSON will be employed at the store.

Claire NEWTON was elected president of the Diagonal school board of education during a reorganization meeting held September 15. Barb STEPHENS was selected as vice-president.

A new event to the area, the first annual "Nomad Farm Sheep Field Day and Working Sheepdog Trials," is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28, at the Ronald DAMANN farm near Grant City, MO.
