The Mount Ayr Community high school students recently spent a week in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Youth
Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy. Senior Stephanie NOBLE and juniors Michael INLOES and Dustin
LARSON were among 400 high school students from across the nation who participated in the event held February 17-22.
Three Mount Ayr Community high school students received division I ratings at the state individual speech contest
held in Atlantic Saturday. Jared BECK, Amanda HYNEK and Jospehine HEGER all received division I ratings for entries
in the contest.
A Mount Ayr student is a member of the Central College men's golf team again this year. Joe SCHAFER, a senior, will
be playing on the 36-member squad this year.
Following tryouts last week, members were named last wek for the Mount Ayr Sparks, the Mount Ayr Community high
school drill team. Name to the drill team for the 2004-05 school year were Haley BAKER, Arianna JACKSON,
Breann McCONNELL, Kate KEMERY, Katie WEDDLE, Wendy DOOLITTLE, Stephanie McCONNELL, Chelsea CAMPBELL, Tara BAKER,
Allison WALTER, Kelsey GEIST and Christina JOHNSON.
The Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter is a recipient of a $2,000 Environment First Grant, awarded by the Iowa Farm
Bureau. The chapter will use the funding to conduct activities which will improve the quality of the environment
throughout the communities served by the district. Officers for the Mount Ayr chapter include Cody SOBOTKA,
Debra WILSON, Michael INLOES, Chelsea CAMPBELL, Kyle HAYSE, Brian INLOES, Scott COOK, Jake STEEN and Adam JACKSON.
