For someone not accustomed to cold weather, the Iowa winter is a big adjustment for 16-year-old Eugenio
Pinheiro C. FARIA of Brazil. During his stay in Iowa, FARIA is living with Lowell and DeAnn JOHNSON of rural Diagonal>
Three Diagonal Community high school students received Division I ratings and advanced to state from the district
large group speech contest. Tori WALKUP and Abby STEPHENS won a divison I rating in the group improvisation centest. STEPHENS
and Shauna KILGORE received a divison I rating for their ensemble acting presentation.
Ringgold County Public Health will be holding a thank you recognition in honor of Paul SMITH on January 20, at the public
health office in Mount Ayr. SMITH is retiring after 14 years of service on the Ringgold County Board of Health. Ringgold
County Board of Supervisors has appointed Monte AKERS of Kellerton to fill the vacant three-year term. Other board
members include Bruce RICKER, D.O., Max MEKUS, D.V.M., Dixie TAYLOR and Raydeen DERSCHEID, R.N.
A former Ringgold county resident, Ione JENNINGS WRIGHT, will be honored at a Winterset chamber of Commerce
banquet Friday, following her selection as female citizen of the year in Madison county.
Four Ringgold county students, Kelsy GEIST, Tara BAKER, Kalie MEYER and Daniel SHOWALTER, participated in a youth
free throw contest held January 14 at Leon. SHOWALTER hit 10 of 15 free throws and will represent the 10-year-old
age group in the district contest.
