A.G. MOFFATT, voting director and president of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau, has been elected as a member of the state Farm Bureau Research Committee for a three-year term. The duty of the committee is to investigate and make recommendations on such matters as freight rates, taxation problems, marketing legislation, farm programs, etc.

At the annual meeting of the Ringgold Fire Insurance association, J. J. LEPLEY, of Benton township; Rowe T. DENNEY, of Middle Fork township; and Clarence LINGER, of Jefferson township, were unanimously re-elected to serve as directors.

Rev. Chester A. SAMPSON, of Detroit, MI., has accepted the pastorate of Mount Ayr Advent Christian Church for a three-year term. His wife and daughter, Marietta, will join him as soon as living quarters are available.

Three Burlington Trailways busses are now routed through Mount Ayr, the new bus having been added to the service last Monday. With the addition of the new bus, which travels from Fort Madison to Clarinda, excellent connection can be made at Clarinda for all points west and to St. Joseph and Kansas City, MO. The mail bus runs between Leon and Albany, MO.

DIAGONAL -- Nellie Lou WROUGHTON won first place and Patricia Ann WOODS, second, in the pre-district declamatory contest held recently at Villisca.

HATFIELD -- Clara UNDERWOOD, teacher in the Delphos High School, has resigned her position to accept a government appointment with the S. F. A. as home economics visitor, with headquarters at Cape Girardeau, MO.

SHANNON CITY -- Newly elected officers of the Community Club are Mrs. Beula BORHIES, president; Mrs. Frances EKLUND, vice-president; Viola COOPER, secretary; Keith STRADLEY, song leader; and Mrs. OXENRIDER, pianist.

Charles FOSTER commenced working Saturday in the Jack Sprat Store, which was taken over last week by E. C. BUTNER, manager of the Mount Ayr Fruit and Vegetable Market.

The Mount Ayr F.F.A. basketball team won the invitational tourney held Saturday in Osceola. Other schools competing were Osceola, Indianola an Chariton. The starting lineup was composed of James JACKSON, Lyndon NICHOLS, Bob SKINNER, James WATSON and Lyle DAILEY. Others who saw action were Robert SALTZMAN, Gerald GARNER, Loren ELLIOTT and Paul DAVIS.

The staff for the Ayrian Mount Ayr High School's yearbook will include Dick McFARLAND, Jack DAILEY, George BURNSIDE, Louise FERREE, Mary SPENCER, Betty HOLLEN, Richard NEWMAN, Lyndon NICHOLS, Lyle NEWMAN, Robert SALTZMAN, Robert McCREARY, Ellen WILSON, John LEWIS, Moddonna CAIN, Betty Jo STAMPER, Ramona SMITH, Reed BLISS, Doris SKINNER, Virginia RUSSELL and Donella TAYLOR.

BIRTHS REPORTED FROM RINGGOLD COUNTY HOSPITAL:

  • Jan. 23, a daughter, Weight six and one-half pounds, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred ADKISSON

  • Mr. and Mrs. R. J. RUCKMAN are the parents of a daughter, born Friday.
