RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 25, 1955

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The second Salk polio shots will be given Thursday, Sept. 1, at the schoolhouse in Mount Ayr, according to Milt HENDERSON, Ringgold county chairman of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The first polio shots were administerd in May and all children in Ringgold county who attended the first and second grades during the last school year are eligible to receive the second shots of Salk polio vaccine.

Bill DAUGHTON, Kellerton, showed a highly finished Herford steer to grand champion honors last week in the Ringgold county junior livestock show, against sme of the stiffest competition in several years. The reserve grand champion steer was a neatly fitted Shorthorn owned by Larry BROWN of Lamoni.

Marvin LESAN of Kellerton swept the hog show with the grand champion market pig, first place pen of three and first place market litter in one of the largest market hog showings.

Miss Louise WEISSHAAR, administrator of the Ringgold County Hospital, will be the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the hospital auxiliary scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13. Miss WEISSHAAR, who returned last week from a two-months tour of Europe, will relate highlights of her trip abroad.

An extensive remodeling, reparing and redecorating program in the Mount Ayr school building has been completed. Three more classrooms were provided to handle the increased enrollment by constructing partitions in the music room and the study hall in the old building. The extra space gained from the music room will be used as a second grade room. Included among the most important repairs, and probably the most expensive, was the installation of 33 new window sashes on the lower story of the old building. The carpenter work was done by Dudley WATTS and his crew of workmen. Much of the repair work and painting were done by the regular custodians, Gerald YOUNG and Raymond WALTER. During the past month, Coach Joe McNEILL has also been on the job.
