Iowa United Methodist bishop Rueben P. JOB has announced his intention to appoint Rev. Walter D. ZARR as pastor of
the Lenox-Mercer Center United Methodist charge. Rev. ZARR is currently pastor of the Kellerton-Beaconsfield-Grand River
United Methodist charge and will replace Rev. Lester HESSELTINE.
Dennis TASSELL of Diagonal will be a coach in the 11th annual Dr. Pepper all-star boys basketball games in late June
at the University of Northern Iowa's UNI Dome at Cedar Falls. For 15 years TASSELL has been a Diagonal Community
schools coach, teacher and administrator.
Three Ringgold county students were among 240 outstanding Future Farmers of America members from across the state who
received the "Iowa Farmer" degree at the 58th annual Iowa FFA leadership conference in Des Moines Friday. Matt
DAUGHTON and Kevin KLOMMHAUS of the Mount Ayr Community high school chapter and Galen JIMMERSON of the Grand Valley
Community high school chapter received the award - the highest degree conferred on members by the Iowa Association FFA.
Malinda STRINGHAM, Mount Ayr Community graduating senior, was named as the recipient of a $200 scholarship given by
Chapter CK, P.E.O. at Mount Ayr.
Clarke Air Force Base in the Phillipines has made the news during the final days of power for Ferdinand MARCOS there
and a Mount Ayr serviceman was there during the change in power. Airman First Class Ron BRAND of Mount Ayr was
nearing the end of an 18-month assignment in the Phillipines when the transition of power was made.
Two Mount Ayr students enrolled at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO were among 140 students honored
recently at the university's 37th annual honors assembly. Lynnette KNIGHT received the Hildegarde F. DREPS Award of $500
and Gary ROUDYBUSH ws the recipient of one of two LeMar-Rischer psychology scholarships.
Sherri SMITH, Mount Ayr Community high school senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max SMITH of Mount Ayr, was named
recipient of thte American Choral Director's Association award.
