A new Ringgold county auditor was sworn into office Tuesday morning after Renda J. PAXSON was selected by the Ringgold
County Board of Supervisors to replace Kim O'MAILIA, who resigned from the position last week. PAXSON has been a deputy
auditor in the office here and was sworn in by Ringgold county magistrate Jim PEDERSEN. The appointment was made
Tuesday morning and notice was given to the public that PAXSON will serve until the next election unless the public
petitions for an election.
Major award winners were presented awards at the annual 4-H awards night held Sunday at the Ringgold county fairgrounds.
A family fun night and cookout were held along with the award presentations and over 100 people attended. Major award
winners were Jennifer HOSFIELD, Amy WEEDA, Chelsea CAMPBELL, Amy TRIGGS, Matt WEEDA, Adam TRIGGS, Amanda HYNEK, Levi
CAMERON and Josephine HEGER.
Mount Ayr Chapter 356 Order of the Eastern Star celebrated their 100th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 5. Some of the
members participating in the celebration were Gary ROUDYBUSH, Kris ROUDYBUSH, Laurance BISHOP, Kathy SHIELDS, Erika WILMES,
Teri CAMPBELL, Julie WEEDA, Max BUCKNER, Mildred BURDETT, Debbie CANNON, Karen BENDER, Shelly WIMER, Joann BUCKNER, Joen BROWN,
Beulah HUTCHINSON, Edna SMALL and Mike WIMER.
Mount Ayr Chapter 346 Order of the Eastern Star celebrated their 100th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 5.
Mount Ayr Community high school's Raider marching band came within 1.7 points of a division I rating in the Class
2A state marching band contest held in Waukee Saturday. The Raider band received a division I rating on marching general
effect and marching execution and for the color guard. Division II rating were received for musical general effect and musical
execution.
A Mount Ayr landmark is coming down following a recent auction when many of the usefulportions of the First Baptist
Church of Mount Ayr were sold. Church members have plans to join with the Presbyteian church members to build
a new joint building. The stained glass windows and many other structural items have been removed. Major structural
problems made tearing down the building necessary.
A Ringgold county resident was named to the Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitching Association's Hall of Fame at the group's
annual meeting. Marvin WOOLLUMS of Mount Ayr, four-time state horseshoe pitching champion, received the award for his
pitching prowess.
