Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 23 & 26, 1915

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

The Maxwell 30's of the United Presbyterian Church took a little spin out to R. A. LAWHEAD'S home Wednesday evening to hold their annual election. C. J. LEWIS was chosen class president; Samuel ROBERTSON, vice-president; R. A. LAWHEAD, secretary; and Alex MAXWELL was again chosen as teacher.

SHANNON CITY - The first issue of the Shannon City paper, "The Messenger," was sent out this week.

DIAGONAL - F. M. MORRILL is building a new shop on the site where his old blacksmith shop stood.

Bessie THOMPSON, who has been employed at the D. D. DOLECHECK store, has quit work on account of her health and expects to be at her home in Blockton for some time.

KELLERTON - W. L. FRISBY has received a fine little Shetland pony, buggy and harness which he will give away to some boy or girl in a contest to be conducted at his general merchandise store during the next three months.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES - The basketball season has opened for Mount Ayr. Last Friday evening the girls played the Lorimor girls on their court. They left Mount Ayr a little after dinner in OLNEY'S car for Benton, where they took the Great Western train to Lorimor. It was a fast game, but very rough, as the Lorimor girls played more boys' rules than girls'. The final score was 20 to 9 in favor of Lorimor. Players on the Mount Ayr team were LEPLEY and TIMBY, forwards; GOODWIN and LAWHEAD, centers; and ROBERTS and STEPHENSON, guards.

BIRTHS

  • DIAGONAL - A baby girl was born at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank SMITH on November 16.

Transcription by Sharon R. Becker, December of 2015
