The first baby born after Mother's Day at Ringgold County Hospital traditionally receives a him for the parents from the Ringgold County Pork Producers and the ham winner this year was Daniel Lee GRAHAM, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve GRAHAM of Benton, who was born at 12:29 p.m., Monday, May 20. Daniel weighed seven pounds, eight and one-half ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Ringgold County Pork Queen Becky WEEHLER made the ham presentation.

The Right Reverend Ted LUSCOMBE of the Diocese of Brechin, a bishop of the Church of England, will be in Mount Ayr Friday, May 24. He is presently visiting in the home of Larry CUNNING in Des Moines and after readubg ab article about Ringgold county in the Des Moines Register, he wanted to visit here. His town, Dundee, Scotland, has been going through a tough economic time with 25% unemployment rate there.

Two area high school students in Walt COBB'S vocational mechanics class at Mount Ayr Community high school placed fifth as a team at the state Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest in Waterloo. Sam ADAMS, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, and Andy SICKELS, a senior at Grand Valley Community high school, placed fifth out of the top 10 teams in the state at contest.

Arnold COMBS of Mount Ayr received a pin signifying 25 years of service to the United States government from Mount Ayr postmaster James EASTON this week. COMBS, a rural route carrier, began working for the United States Post Office in 1962 as a substitute rural carrier. his years in the armed service also were counted toward the 25-year total.

Karla McGINNIS will representing the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes at the state track meet in the shot put.

Rick STEWART, Ken KNAPP and Clint RIGGS all qualified for the state Class 2A track meet scheduled to be held at Ankeny on Friday and Saturday, May 24-25. STEWART will compete in the long jump; KNAPP in the pole vault; and RIGGS in the discus.
